Who Is Charlie Gadbois?
5 Things You Likely Didn’t Know About Our Fearless Leader
At the helm of Wellen Construction, Charlie Gadbois has become synonymous with quality craftsmanship, community leadership, and heartfelt philanthropy. But who exactly is Charlie, and what drives his passion for both building exceptional homes and giving back to his community?
Here are five things you likely didn’t know about Wellen Construction’s fearless leader.
1. Family Roots Run Deep
Wellen Construction began as a family affair. Founded in the early 1980s by Charlie’s cousin, Rob Wellen, the company quickly made a name for itself in Massachusetts. Rob was known as the “best builder in Marlborough” and renowned for his attention to detail and commitment to quality. It wasn’t long before Charlie was asked to join the family business, and together, they began laying the foundation for what would become one of the most respected construction firms in the region.
2. A Background in Financial Economics and a Benedictine Liberal Arts Education
Charlie brings more to the table than construction expertise. With a degree in Financial Economics from Saint Anselm College, his financial acumen has been instrumental in steering Wellen Construction through growth and success over the decades. He credits his liberal arts education at St. Anselm, based on traditional Benedictine values, with helping him understand and navigate the complexities of today’s world.
3. Taking the Reins
In the late 1990s, Charlie officially took the reins of Wellen Construction. At the time, the company was building four to five houses at once—a smaller scale compared to its current projects. By 2000, the team was invited to construct larger homes, including a significant project in Southborough and a house for the president of Bose. This upward spiral marked the beginning of Wellen’s journey into high-end executive-class construction.
4. Cousins Make Great Business Partners
Charlie’s cousin, Norman, also played a vital role in the business. Norman started working with Charlie and Rob while still in high school, learning the ropes on job sites. He later pursued a career in architectural drafting and design but has always maintained a close connection to the family business, demonstrating that Wellen Construction is truly built on family values.
5. A Philanthropic Heart
Charlie’s philanthropic work and the company’s commitment to integrity and quality reflect his belief that construction is more than just homes—it’s about making a difference in people’s lives. This strong dedication to philanthropy led to the creation of “Wellen Cares,” a series of initiatives focused on giving back to the community. After welcoming a daughter with Down syndrome into the world, Charlie began his activism with the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC), serving as president and helping to raise over $1,00,000 through the Boston Bruins Alumni Charity Game, among his many accomplishments. Charlie and the team continuously support community causes like Camp Jabberwocky and Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
Charlie’s dedication to quality craftsmanship and his commitment to philanthropy have shaped Wellen Construction into the premier firm it is today. Under his leadership, the company will continue to thrive, staying true to the values that have always defined it—integrity, family, and community.
Let’s keep building!
